The Science of Life

Understanding the ancient wisdom of Ayurved for modern living.

What is Ayurved?

Derived from the Sanskrit words Ayur (Life) and Veda (Knowledge), Ayurved is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurved is a science of life that provides a blueprint for colorful, vibrant health.

At Ayurvedic Answers, we use this wisdom to help you understand that you are not just a body, but a complex mix of elements and energies that require unique balance.

Panchamahabhuta

Ayurved believes that everything in the universe—including us—is made of five basic elements:

  • Space (Akash): Expansion and hollowness.
  • Air (Vayu): Movement and direction.
  • Fire (Agni): Transformation and heat.
  • Water (Jala): Fluidity and cohesion.
  • Earth (Prithvi): Stability and structure.

The Root Cause Approach

Unlike modern medicine which often targets the "surface" symptoms, Ayurved looks at the "root." We analyze your Agni (digestive fire) and Ama (toxins) to determine why a disease started in the first place, ensuring long-term recovery rather than a temporary fix.

Understanding the Three Doshas

The five elements combine in the human body to form three life forces or energies, called Doshas. Every person has a unique ratio of these three:

Vata (Space + Air)

Controls movement, breathing, and nerve impulses. When balanced, it brings creativity. When imbalanced, it causes anxiety and dryness.

Pitta (Fire + Water)

Controls metabolism, digestion, and body temperature. When balanced, it brings intelligence. When imbalanced, it causes anger and inflammation.

Kapha (Earth + Water)

Controls structure, weight, and lubrication. When balanced, it brings love and patience. When imbalanced, it causes lethargy and congestion.
